Week 2 Feedback

Image
I really enjoyed reading the articles about rejection and negativity. They gave me a new perspective on how to be more positive for myself, and not let rejection take over my work ethic or feelings. I believe that it is important to experience rejection because it makes you work harder and often motivates people to push themselves beyond their comfort limits. One of the articles that stood out to me was " How to Get Past Negativity Bias in Order to Hardwire Positive Experiences," by Katrina Swartz. Swartz mention four main topics to help  overcome  negativity. This included: Have, enrich,  absorb , and link positive and  negative  material. "Have"  referred  to creating or bringing up a good experience. "Enrich" referred to having a positive  experience  and  extending  the time you think about it. "Absorb"  refereed to absorbing a positive experience and imagine how that experience affects oneself. Lastly, linking positive and negative material

Reading Notes Part A: Adam and Eve Unit

https://sites.google.com/view/kyliemarkhamportfolio/storybook Above is the link to my revised story for my portfolio.  When God wanted to make the creation of Eve, he took some body parts of Adam. The creation of a man to a women was perfect because Adam was born with two faces, which was then used for the birth of Eve. God had to truly think about how he would create a woman, since this had never been done before. He wanted her to elegant, beautiful, and captivating. He did not want to use the exact body structures from Adam because God believed a woman should have her own physical traits.  The formation of woman is much different than a male as well because the female body must be built for the function of child-bearing, which is the ability to become pregnant and give birth to either a man or a woman. The voice of a woman is piercing and high-pitched, where as a man's voice is low-pitched and powerful. In order to create Eve, Adam was made to fall into a deep sleep. Eve was then

Week 2 Story: Fairy Tales Beauty and the Basilisk

Image
Once upon a time, there was a father with three sons in a far far away land, which was known for its beautiful valleys and stunning mountain views. One day, the father and the middle son were at the farmers market. The son said "father, I would like a loaf of bread." The father started to panic because he knew he could not afford the loaf of bread. Meanwhile, the son and father continued to walk around the farmers market. There were lots of families, businesses, and dogs wondering around. The son kept telling his father how badly we wanted a loaf of bread. The father would always try to change the subject or show his son the vegetables, which is what he could afford. While walking around the farmers market, a strange creature approached the son. Son soon realized it appeared to be a basilisk. The son started to run away, but the basilisk was too quick and immediately caught up to him. The basilisk told the boy that he could get him a loaf of bread, in return for one thing. T

Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

Image
After reading all of the stories, my personal story was "Fairy Tales" not only because those type of stories were my childhood favorite, but because it was about a mom and three daughters. However, this story was a bit more scary than a typical fairy tale because Mary cut off the B asilisk's head. At first I was a bit scared when I was reading more of the story, but overall I thought it was very unique and different than any other fairy tale I have ever read. I think that is what made me like this fairy tale because it was so different. I also enjoyed reading the "Tricksters" story because I took Choctaw the last three semesters and we read it during my second semester of Choctaw. It was refreshing and nice to read a familiar story, especially an Indian Fairy tale. Both of these stories are very different and I believe it is good to exposed to fairy tales from different cultures. Bibliography: Indian Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs with illustrations by John D. B

Time Strategies

Image
Overall, I really enjoyed reading about the time management strategies because that is something that is very important to me. I thought that the article, "Four Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination," was a great and informational article for me personally because I procrastinate badly sometimes. I enjoyed scamming over all the articles and learning new tools I can use to be for time efficient. I think my biggest challenges will be to have motivation to complete all my assignments early since life is not normal and I am not as busy with school as I normally am. I personally do better in school when I am busy, and since I am not as busy this semester due to COVID and not being a member of the OU Pom team, I need to make sure I stay on top of my studies. Overall, I think these articles were extremely helpful and I think that I will refer back to them the whole semester.  I selected this image because it is from the article, "Four Questions to Help You Overcome pr

Week 1 Technology

Image
I am very familiar with majority of these technology tools because I have used them in my previous courses at OU. I feel that the online environment is a lot like, if not better than what I have experienced in other classes because it is straightforward and I am able to understand what assignments I need to complete on a daily basis. I think it is very organized and helpful. I want to work on Google Sites because I have never used this source. I think it will be good for me to expand my online knowledge and learn how to use other sites.  This is an image of Google Sites. I chose this image because I am eager to learn more about this site. Week 1 Assignments

Image
After completing all of Week 1s assignments, I personally am super excited about this course. My overall impression of this class is that it is going to be fun, but I need to make sure I stay on top of all my work. I have never taken any class like this in college, so I am excited to try something new. The assignments I am most intrigued by are reading the short stories and overall learning about folklore storytelling. I can't wait for this class to start picking up! I chose this image because I am happy I am in this class and excited to learn more.  Source:  https://www.amazon.com/U-S-Custom-Stickers-Rainbow-Sticker/dp/B0787FM9JP

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
After reading through both of the versions that are available for Ramayana, I have chosen to read OPTION TWO. Public Domain Edition: Ramayana. I chose this option because there is a free version I can read online, various styles and authors, lots of illustrations, lots of notes and links. I think this version will be a push for me since it is more of an older style of writing. I also think I will enjoy this option because I can listen to it as well. After looking through the comic book options, I am interested in "Stories of Courage" and "Shiva Parvati." I chose the "Stories of Courage" not only because I liked seeing the tiger on the front cover, but also because I think the story will provide a wise life lesson. I chose "Shiva Parvati" because I love reading about love stories, which this is the perfect comic book for me. The videos I have chosen are Sacred Trees and Underwater Cities. I simply chose both of these videos because they sounded i
