Reading Notes: Mr. Fox and the Deceitful Frogs

Mr. Fox and the Deceitful Frogs

Turtle mocks Brer Fox from down in the water.

Turtle says, “I-doom-er-ker-kum-mer-ker!
I-doom-er-ker-kum-mer-ker!
I-doom-er-ker-kum mer-ker!”

Which translates to Terrapin talk. Turtle kept reapeating, “I-doom-er-ker-kum-mer-ker!” as he lays in the bottom of the pond. Yappin’ at Brer Fox in the bubbles. “I-doom-er-ker-kum-mer-ker!, I-doom-er-ker-kum-mer-ker!,” says Turtle

Brer Fox remains silent, he does not reply to Turtle.

Sitting on the bank was Brer Bull-Frog. He heard Brer Terrapin and started to holler back:
Jug-er-rum-kum-dum!
Jug-er-rum-kum-dum!

Brer Frog hollered back and said:
Knee-deep!
He repeats: Knee-deep!

Old Brer Bull-Frog hollers back:
Don't-you-ber-lieve-'im!
Don't-you-ber-lieve-'im!

Brer Terrapin comes up from the bubbles:
I-doom-er-ker-kum- mer-ker!

Next, Brer Frog sings out:
Wade in!
Wade in!

Old Brer Bull-Frog uses his hoarse voice and hollers:
There-you'll-find-your-brother!
There-you'll-find-your-brother!

Brer Fox looked across the bank and noticed another Fox looking at him out of the water.

Brer Fox tried to shake hands, and he fell heels over head.

Brer Terrapin bubble out:
I-doom-er-ker-kum-mer-ker!

Brer Fox didn’t drown. He managed to get himself out. However, if there was more and Mud Turtle came for him. He would have been dead.
