Introduction

Hello, my name is Kylie Markham and I am from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I am a senior this fall at OU. I also have a younger sister, Lindsey, who is a freshman at OU as well. I am an Advertising major with a minor in Enterprise Studies. I have two younger sisters. I was a member of the OU spirit team my Sophomore and Junior year. I am also a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority here at OU. My favorite color is blue, specifically any light blue. My favorite place to travel to is Hawaii or the Caribbean. I love going to the beach with my family. We always go on a spring break trip together, it has been a family tradition since I was a little girl. I love to hangout with my friends and family, workout, go on walks, and to cook. I also enjoy skiing and swimming at the beach. My favorite type of music is country, but I also love pop, rock, and hiphop. I chose to attend OU because I knew I wanted to attend a traditional university with a strong alumni presence and a large greek system. Coming to OU was bar far the best decision I have ever made. I am so happy I came to OU because I have made lifelong friendships and connections. I would not be the person I am today without OU and the people who support me. I hope to have a future is sales career or some sort of marketing position. I am very passionate about public speaking and communicating effectively with others. I have a seven year old Australian Shepherd named Tucker. My favorite foods are sweet potatoes, avocados, and steak. I could eat all of those foods everyday for the rest of my life and be perfectly content. I am so excited for this semester to begin, I can't believe I am a senior.

Here is a picture of my family:

  1. Hi Kylie!

I love that you came from out of state. I know that can be an extremely hard choice to make but I think that most people end up loving it! As a senior, it can be super exciting to be on campus and get to look back and reflect on some of the things that you loved about college. I can imagine that being apart of the spirit squad made for many great memories! I, personally, am was on the fence about going out of state but I came and invested and now I cannot imagine cheering for any other team but the Sooners! It was so great getting to know you!

    With love,
    Brynlee!

  2. Hey, Kylie!

I also love the color blue and Hawaii! I'm glad you also have good taste. I find it really interesting that you are so interloped with Greek life. I wanted to give it a try as a Freshman, but never did even as a Senior. I was just shy, unsure, indecisive, etc, but you make it sound really great as it seems really welcoming and exciting! I relate with you in that OU was one of the best decisions I have made, and I am really glad you are enjoying it here as much as I am (especially as far as being a Seniors!). I hope the remainder of your time at OU is just as great!

  3. Hawaii is one of my favorite places too, Kylie... and I so (SOOOOO) want to go to the Caribbean. I worked this summer on a Caribbean folktale project (Anansi stories from Jamaica and all over the Caribbean), but that would have been so much better if I had been writing the work ON a Caribbean island. Maybe for this class you will want to learn something about the storytelling traditions of the Hawaiaan island or of the Caribbean. They are both beautiful places AND full of beautiful stories! Some links: stories from Hawaii - link and Caribbean stories - link (scroll down to the bottom for the Caribbean books there)

  4. Hi Kylie,

I think it is great that you've enjoyed your time at OU so much. I also chose OU because I wanted that traditional collegiate feel for my college experience, and I've loved it here. I grew up with Australian shepherds, and they are the sweetest dogs! Tucker is a great name too! We had one named Katie, which is just such a weird name for a dog in my opinion. I would love to go to Hawaii, and especially since quarantine, I have been daydreaming about lying on a tropical beach more than normal! I'd love to go some time, and hopefully I will enjoy it as much as you do!

  5. What's up Kylie,

It's nice to virtually meet you. I always love hearing from people that came out of state that end up loving it here. It seems like you and your family are really close and that is an awesome thing. The yearly trips are so cool and being able to go to the Caribbean and Hawaii is a dream. It is awesome that you have an idea of what you want o do when you get through with college! I can't wait to read some of your stories over the course of the semester!

    Best,
    Payton

  6. Kylie,

Thank you for sharing a little bit about you to the rest of us! I've never heard of that major/minor combination before; I think it sounds very interesting. What specifically is 'enterprise studies'? How is it different from just the advertising major? What do you plan to do with your major? Same as you, I'm just as shocked when I think about how I'm already a senior this semester. Time just keeps coming by so fast. I wish it would slow down a bit! But, it can't be helped and you just have to hang on to it and not get left behind!

  7. Hi Kylie,
It was a pleasure going through your introduction. I see that you came from out of state, Colorado to be precise. I haven't visited colorado yet but planning to go in a near future to do some skiing. I wonder where do you like the most? Oklahoma or Colorado?. I hope you are enjoying your time here at OU.

    With Love,
    Lumingo

  8. Hi Kylie, Every spring break growing up my family would usually go to the beach too. It can be a lot of fun and there are so many different ones. I also love blue though I only have one sister and she is older than me. It seems like your family is close so it must be nice to have your sister here on campus as well. It is very nice to meet you.

  9. Hi Kylie!

It was so nice getting to learn a little bit more about you! I grew up going to the beach with my family as well since we lived in California! I also have a sister so I know exactly what it's like growing up in an all girl household haha! You seem to have a very close knit and sweet family! I also think it would be so nice having a sibling at OU as well! It was so nice to meet you and I look forward to reading what you write!

  10. Hi Kylie!

It's cool that you have your sister at the University with you! I know someone else in this class has their brother here with them, and I'm going to give similar advice that I said to them: cherish it while you can. You might feel "held back" by having your sister here, but I promise you she appreciates it more than you can imagine. My brother was a senior here when I was a freshman and I could not be more thankful I had that support system while I was adjusting to college life. I also love the Caribbean! My family has been on a handful of cruises to the Caribbean and it was beautiful every time. How was Hawaii? My family was supposed to go on our first trip to Hawaii this summer (but it was cancelled for obvious reasons) so I'm just itching to hear about or see Hawaii for myself soon. I hope you have a great senior year!

  11. Hi Kylie,
I also have a brother who goes to this school too and I am so happy that I get to this school with my brother. I also completely love to go the beach and places like that. I really have loved my time at OU I hope that you get a job in sales. I love how you seem to be close with your family I think that it is so important.

  12. Hi Kylie!
It’s good to hear that you have had wonderful experiences and are enjoying your time at OU! Since you and your sister are at OU together, did your parents also attend OU? How did you find your passion for public speaking? I loathe any kind of public speaking--formal or not. I don’t like speaking in front of big groups and that’s something I need to work on for myself. Nice to meet you and best of luck with your senior year!

  13. Hello, I am also and avid country music listener because I grew up in a small farm town. Coming to OU was definitely a huge step for me but I am also so glad that I made it. I’m so glad that you have found lifelong friendships and connections her at OU! I want to wish you luck on the rest of your senior and I hope you take it in and really enjoy it!

  14. Hi Kylie,

Your family is absolutely stunning! Norman is 45 minutes away from my hometown, so I visit them almost every week. I love that you are also so close and like to hang out with your family. I also LOVE sweet potatoes and avocados. I wonder if you are big on brunch since I see those food groups typically used in brunch dishes. It was great meeting you!

  15. Hi Kylie,
Your experiences are amazing! I like that you could visit your family at almost any time! As a student abroad, I am not allowed to do that until I could have long break. Also, the pandemic makes me could not go back to my country in the last summer vacation. Hopefully we can beat the virus!

  16. Hi Kylie :)
I think it's awesome you spend time with your family, and that you and your sister are able to go to the same university. Tucker sounds like such a cute dog, too! It's cool to see another Gaylord student in this class. I'm in the Professional Writing program, and love being at Gaylord. I hope the rest of your semester goes well and your sister's years at OU are nothing but awesome :)

  18. Hi Kylie,
I think it is so cool you are from Colorado. I am from Northern California and grew just an hour away from the ski slopes. Though I too am a huge fan of the beach, my parents grew up in Southern California and a lot of our family is still down there so we make visits often. Thats really cool you were on the spirit team here, I play baseball for OU. Best of luck as you finish you last year here at OU, and take the next step in sales or marketing!

  19. Hi Kylie! You sound very involved on campus and it's amazing that you're so far from home but doing very well! I'm a little jealous you're from Colorado, I have always wanted to visit that state one day. Also, I think it's a talent you like to public speak. Not many people are good at this (including me), but it is a very good quality to have! Anyways, good luck on your future plans and congratulations on graduating this year!

  20. Hey Kylie! I'm sorry I'm just now meeting you but I hope you've had a good semester! I think it is so cool that you're from Colorado as it is one of my favorite states and I definitely want to live there in the future. I also think its cool that you can claim a favorite place to travel as Hawaii! I've been there once and it was absolutely breathtaking, so I am jealous. Anyway, I hope you finish out the semester well and have a very happy holiday!
