Reading Notes: Japanese Mythology Part B

Urashima, a great tortoise, rose out of the jade-green water of the ocean. A tortoise is a symbol of long life, which is very holy. Urashima was about to bless commoners who were trapped in the ocean.

Earlier that day, four commoners set off from their village north of the Atlantic. They knew that it was going to be a risk sailing in these dangerous waters.

They sailed for about four hours until the clouds started to become black and grey. The sun disappeared and ran started to pour down on their tiny boat.

The commoners faces were filled with fear, they knew they did not have the equipment or tools to survive a huge storm. They were not prepared for any troubles while sailing.

They began to pray and yell out to God. "Lord, please help us, please send us a sign that we are going to be okay. We need a sign of you God, please," yelled the commoners.

The sea began to swirl into one big picture. It was so perfect, it was beautiful. The water started to turn jade-green. The wind calmed down. The sun started to come out of the dark clouds. The sky started to lighten up again.

Out of the waters, arose Urashima. The commoners eyes were filled with fear and confusion. They were so shocked and did not know if they were in a dream or real life.

Urashima told the commoners, "I am here to save you, commoners. I represent long life, which is what I am going to grant all of you."

The commoners could not believe what they were seeing or hearing. They kept looking at each other to make sure what they were witnessing was true.

Urashima began to scream, which then formed the commoners boat back together. It looked as if they were never in the storm. Urashima told the commoners to be more thankful for the life they were given.

The commoners thanked Urashima and sailed back to their village.

 Hello, my name is Kylie Markham and I am from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I am a senior this fall at OU. I also have a younger sister, Lindsey, who is a freshman at OU as well. My favorite type of music is country, but I also love pop, rock, and hiphop. I chose to attend OU because I knew I wanted to attend a traditional university with a strong alumni presence and a large greek system.

Week 7 Story: The Miraculous Mirror

Once upon a time, there was a sun goddess, whom was high of the heavens named  Amaterasu. She was known to sit in the middle of the night weaving a web of Doom. In which, this web of Doom was so big and symbolized the characteristics of joy and dismay. Amaterasu's weaving lead to Izanagi's daughter showing up. She was known for her Lotus-pure blossoms of Love with the flame of a rapturous star. She began to spin and interweave colors that represented important things to her, like life or war.  Thunder and lightening began falling from the sky. The angels were bowling. The Hall of the Gods were sending a message from heaven.  Suddenly, the demon of fire appeared in the mist of the ran. He was called, the Dragon of Hell. Amaterasu was frightened, she left her spinning and weaving. She raged at her brother in fear.  People prayed for a sign of heaven. They knew they needed more good in this world than the devil showing itself through fire and wind. They prayed for the Sun-Goddess
