Week 7 Story: The Miraculous Mirror

Once upon a time, there was a sun goddess, whom was high of the heavens named Amaterasu. She was known to sit in the middle of the night weaving a web of Doom. In which, this web of Doom was so big and symbolized the characteristics of joy and dismay.

Amaterasu's weaving lead to Izanagi's daughter showing up. She was known for her Lotus-pure blossoms of Love with the flame of a rapturous star. She began to spin and interweave colors that represented important things to her, like life or war.

Thunder and lightening began falling from the sky. The angels were bowling. The Hall of the Gods were sending a message from heaven.

Suddenly, the demon of fire appeared in the mist of the ran. He was called, the Dragon of Hell. Amaterasu was frightened, she left her spinning and weaving. She raged at her brother in fear.

People prayed for a sign of heaven. They knew they needed more good in this world than the devil showing itself through fire and wind. They prayed for the Sun-Goddess to appear, they needed her to show herself in the light.

A few moments later, the Goddess of Laughter, danced in the light of the moon and was so beautiful she was captivating. She appeared in the moonlight, and whipped Amaterasu's tears off her face.

The Goddess of Laughter performed a beautiful dance. She made the thunderstorm stop and brought out the clear sky and calm sea. Daylight was the only thing to save Amaterasu from going crazy.

Amaterasu ran from a caved in door she saw in the corner of her room. She knew the gates of hell were up to putting that there.

She tripped and fell into the cave, which was a portal. It ended up being beautiful. It was heaven.

Authors Note: This story was a bit confusing to me since they use of a lot of terms I do not the meaning to, however, I did my best to try to stay true to its' original form while being creative. I did not change much, just the language and dialogue so it would be easier to understand. Even though I could not understand parts of the original story, I really enjoyed reading and re-creating it.

  1. Hi Kylie!

I really like the simplicity of this story. I also found it very relatable during this time of uncertainty with the pandemic. I feel as though we are all experiencing our own personal "thunder and lightning falling from the sky". I could feel Amaterasu's panic as she is trying to find peace, similar to how we're all trying to find comfort during these trying times.

  2. Hi Kylie,
I think that you did a great job taking a complicated story and making it into something that is very interesting and understandable. I liked that the story and it had a good ending and how she was able to end up in heaven despite ending being at the gates of hell. It was written very well and enjoyable to read.

  3. Hey Kylie,
I had to read the original story and I thought you did a good job of retelling it! I appreciate that you put it into your own words; it was easier to understand what was going on. You also added your own touches/changes from the story, which was very cool, especially since the original story was a little difficult to follow. Good work!
